Misery
Misery
Synopsis
Misery. Written in 1987 by the famous author, Stephen King. A psychological horror which leaves the reader tense and shaking with fear with every page. With the sole focus on the two characters Anne and Paul, King has created a horror so unique that it makes the readers always on the edge of their seats anticipating the next part. His characters; Paul, a famous writer, has a terrible car accident in the middle of nowhere when Annie comes across him and saves his life by taking him back to her home. Or so he initially believes. Realising that his number one fan, Annie, is not mentally stable, Paul recognises the threat to his life and quickly discovers that, actually, he is being kept hostage with no chance of escaping any time soon. Adapted for screen then to the stage by Simon Moore in 1999, the play will be directed by Beth Hedley for stage once again, who will be further adapting the script to put her own spin on the novel whilst also keeping the effect of the horror alive by using stage combat, multimedia and rather a lot of blood!
